This is National Foster Care Month. A time when state governments and private groups are working to place children in need in stable homes.

Around the country social service agencies are in need of foster parents.

Resource families affirm and support both the child and their family along with ensuring cultural and community connections for children and young adults.

It is estimated that across the US there are 420,000 kids in foster care.

With the growth of drugs flowing into the country, the numbers have increased.

A lot of parents go into drug rehab, and their kids need a place to stay, often that’s foster care.

National Foster Care Month is an opportunity to:

  • Lift up and thank resource parents and relative caregivers for their essential role in strengthening and reunifying families.
  • Honor the family, community and cultural connections for children and young people in foster care; and
  • Learn how we can all can make a difference in our community by supporting children, youth and families experiencing foster care.

There are several Christian organizations involved in supporting foster care parents.

One is Focus on the Family. They urge you to commit time this month to pray for these foster children who matter to God. Praying for kids in foster care doesn’t have to involve special events or showy vigils. It’s simply about concentrated, heartfelt prayer.

National Foster Care Month is a chance to petition God to move in our world.
