With polls showing a lot of evangelicals unhappy about the options they’ll have on election day later this year, one writer says it’s a topic that they should not spend much time worrying about.

Mark Alan Williams is a speaker, author, and church leader. On his blog he offers four reasons why Christians should not worry about election results.

God is in control. God is sovereign, meaning He is ultimately in control of everything, including election results.

While we may never know why God has allowed the leaders He has, He is in control.

This gives us peace.

Worry is always wrong. Philippians 4:6 tells us “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.”

If you’re a Christian and worrying about election results, you’re disobeying God’s Word.

Staying involved isn’t wrong unless it gets out of balance—an obsession. In fact, Williams writes we should participate. But we should not be involved to the extent that the election, politics and government become our passion.

Christians are citizens of heaven.  While we are citizens of a country on earth, ultimately, we are foreigners here. Our real citizenship is in heaven.  So why, he asks, would we get worked up about election results earth?

Our real hope is in Christ. If we are worrying about an election, it’s a sign we’re trusting in the wrong thing!
