Retirement from work is not retirement from spiritual growth. Here are a couple of ways to increase your spiritual growth as you get older.

The suggestions come from Dawn Wilson writing for Crosswalk.com.

First, Grow Older Gradually.

Aging is inevitable, but we shouldn’t rush aging with foolish decisions. Each day, we make choices that determine our character in old age. Being a godly senior doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a growing process into spiritual maturity.

Grow Older Gracefully.

Wilson says pray for wisdom, to be loving and forgiving, for purpose, godly character, a committment to truth and a devotion to biblical principles.

Grow Older Guiltlessly.

That means living in light of our forgiveness in Christ and not condemning ourselves. We are accepted in the Beloved. God has holy purposes for us.

Grow Older Gently.

Sometimes, the elderly continue to push themselves with internal dialogues that are no longer realistic. With age comes the need to recognize new limitations. Perhaps we can push through some perceived limitations to achieve more than we dreamed possible, but other constraints are simply part of the human condition due to the fall.

And Grow Older Gladly.

As we age, there are new inconveniences and things that test us daily; but we can choose to be grateful instead of grumbling. Its looking at  life with the eyes of Christ and power of the Spirit.
