Do you have trouble putting time aside every day to be with God? Today, four reasons why you don’t follow through with Quiet time.

Jonathan Malm, writing for the website “Relevent” argues in many cases we approach quiet time the wrong way.

Here offers four reasons why we fail at quiet time:

First, we Start Too Ambitiously. He writes. “If you aren’t used to reading your Bible or have grown into this discipline, reading for 30 minutes a day may feel like going from 0 to 100 MPH on a scooter. It might be possible but it isn’t sustainable. Slowly work your way up.

Next, we Get Too Far Behind. Don’t let any amount of guilt keep you from getting to know about the heart of your God. Malm says he generally doesn’t choose devotionals that correspond with dates. And when he does he ignores the dates.

Then there’s Reading at the Wrong Time of Day. He suggests building your time with Jesus into your daily to-do list. If that doesn’t work, experiment with a time of day that does. Maybe lunch or early each day in the parking lot before you get to work or school. He says, maybe it’s not that you can’t succeed at following through at quiet time, but that you just haven’t found the time that works for you.

And finally, the danger of losing interest. He writes, it might be easier to read Scriptures that immediately speak to a situation you’re struggling with or if you talk to God about what’s already on your mind. That will keep it fresh.
