The mom of a Down Syndrome baby recently wrote an emotional letter to her doctor….who suggested she abort the baby.

One year after her baby Emeryson was born, Courtney Baker decided to write a letter to the prenatal specialist who suggested repeatedly she have an abortion.   The doctor said the quality of life for a child with Down Syndrome would be “horrible.”

She posted pictures of Emersyn holding the letter before sending it and sent the contents of the now-viral piece to ParkerMyles.com, a site educating people on what it’s like to raise a child who has Down Syndrome.

Courtney wrote, “I came to you during the most difficult time in my life. I was terrified, anxious and in complete despair. “I didn’t know the truth yet about my baby, and that’s what I desperately needed from you. But instead of support and encouragement, you suggested we terminate our child.”

Courtney writes Emersyn is “perfect” and that she’s not angry or bitter at the person who was so insistent she abort. Instead she writes to the doctor she’s “mostly sad you’ll never have the privilege of knowing my daughter,” who has completely changed her life.

Courtney hopes the doctor will give women who are pregnant with babies with Down Syndrome more than just one option — and be completely objective about them while doing so.

The mom’s post has more than 3,000 shares since it was posted earlier this month and hundreds of comments from parents who’ve been in similar situations.
