A Texas man is serenading his wife during her last few days on earth with a song he wrote for her as an engagement present.
Benny and Saundra Mayo have been married for 60 years. Benny is used to long-term engagements. He spent 53 years in ministry retiring as the senior adult minister at Hillcrest Baptist church in Cedar Hill, Texas.
But for the past few months Benny’s job has been taking care of Saundra, who has an inoperable brain tumor. She recently was put in a nursing home where she received a feeding tube
Every day Benny brushes Saundra’s hair and tell her she’s beautiful. He also takes a few moments to sing her song-after-song to comfort his longtime partner while strumming along on his guitar.
That song is one that Benny wrote for Saundra one month after they were engaged to be married back in 1955
Benny says when he wrote the song he meant every word.
And says he still does.
