An effort is underway to transform Chicago in 2019 by turning its citizens to God.

The Explore God Chicago initiative started with the new year and runs through February.

Organizers describe the effort as a Community Outreach Initiative led by a committee of local pastors and business and ministry leaders.  They say that while we all have questions about God, faith, and purpose; Explore God is a unique effort to come together to look at these questions in an open, authentic way.

They’ll do that by exploring what they call, “The 7 Big Questions.”

  1. Does life have a purpose?
  2. Is there a God?
  3. Why does God allow pain and suffering?
  4. Is Christianity too narrow?
  5. Is Jesus really God?
  6. Is the Bible reliable?
  7. Can I know God personally?

Ministries across denominational lines in the greater Chicago area will explore these big questions together through discussion groups and sermon series.

Its fashioned after a similar 2013 initiative in Austin, Texas that increased church attendance 10 percent as congregations focused on inviting friends, coworkers, and family members to explore life’s big questions.

Explore God Chicago hopes to attract similar interest through Billboards, radio and television spots, and yard signs that will blanket greater Chicago, inviting people to explore God.
