Is there anything in this politically contentious election that all Christians should be able to agree on?  One writer came up with six.

Zach Boehm describes himself as a political junkie and in an article for Church Leaders he lists six commitments that Christians should be able to agree on.

Number one.  Don’t buy into fear. Political ads are meant to terrify you. Don’t forget where your strength and hope are truly found. Its not in political leadership.

Number 2. Don’t sell fear. “Do not be afraid” is one of the most common commands in the Bible. God has a big problem with us living in a state of fear.

Number 3. Don’t make personal attacks. He or she is a person created in the image of God; a person who God deemed valuable enough to die for. Speaking of them with contempt is indefensible.

Number 4. Don’t put my politics before your faith. Boehm writes “If I start being more concerned with how someone sees my candidate or party than with how they see my loving God, I’ve lost my way.

Number 5. Don’t spend more time talking than praying. Which do you believe accomplishes more for our country, debating politics or praying?

And finally – vote. To not vote is to abdicate our responsibility. Even if you aren’t crazy about the two major party candidates, there are many other issues and candidates that you have the opportunity and responsibility to speak into on the ballot.
