From being a homeless addict, to helping others with problems find Christ. What follows is a powerful story about a broken man and his bike ride across America.
Seven years ago, Spencer Nee was homeless and battling alcohol addiction in Denver, Colorado. Today he’s sober after finding Jesus and now leads a national cause designed to help others facing similar ordeals. Back in May, Nee mounted his bike on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Four months later he got off on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. He tells his story in a video on his website:
Spencer wasn’t just out for a lot of exercise or to add to his bucket list….he rode to raise $100,000 for Providence Network and ultimately help others who were struggling in life. In 2007, an estimated 3.5 million people (1.3 million of them being children) were likely to experience homelessness in a given year, according to a study by the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty. Many of these people were just like Spencer, ordinary Americans who somehow lost their way — although for him it was a battle with drugs and alcoholism that led to his struggles.
God is using Spencer through his story to be a “bridge” to others who are looking for hope in their pain and despair.
