Earlier this year, Bryson Reine told his father he wanted to do something massive in 2023 to raise money for the ministry known as BGMC.  He did it by climbing the class 2 Mt. Massive at 14,421 feet to raise money for the ministry.

Last year, Bryson did four 14ers – what they call 14,000-foot mountains in Colorado – in a single day. In the process he raised $7,000 for BGMC. This year, he wanted to do more.

Bryson admitted that Mt. Massive was a much harder climb than the four last year due to its length and constant upward grade. The total distance of the 11-hour hike was 14.9 miles with an elevation gain of 5,187 feet.

Shawn, Bryson’s dad and Church Ministries director for the Rocky Mountain Ministry Network who also made the climb, said they started at 3:30 a.m. — to avoid the afternoon storms. Mt. Massive doesn’t require ropes to scale, but it is a hike that requires rock scrambling, using hands and feet to reach the summit.

Bryson was able to raise the amount through the help of a matching-fund program run by WorldServe as well as other very generous individuals who gave directly to the effort.

The money raised will be used to build a drip irrigation system for families in Africa.
