In this era of quarantine, it’s not easy to hold graduations, birthdays or weddings. But one mom came up with a unique way for guests to attend the wedding of two ER nurses.

Clare Seghers and her fiancé Mel Keefer understand the need for social distancing better than most. Both are medical professionals who have been working in the emergency departments of two different hospitals near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, during the coronavirus pandemic. Still, they were determined not to let the outbreak keep them from saying, “I do!”

So they took one day off to tie the knot and postponed their honeymoon. They made several other concessions, including cutting their guest list down to 10 and maintaining social distancing during the ceremony.

Before they entered Mount St. Carmel Church in St. Francisville, Louisiana, Mel’s mom arranged a wonderful surprise. She and a few other family members printed out headshots of the 100 guests who had planned to come and pinned each one to the church pews. It was quite a surprise When the couple walked down the aisle.

Then when the newlyweds left the church, they found dozens of relatives, friends, and coworkers waiting outside in their cars.

“They were all honking the horns and cheering!”

Mel said — “It was a good break for both of us to put a lot of sad and negative things to the side and focus on each other for a day. It felt like a vacation from everything that’s going on, and I’m thankful for my family and friends that helped us celebrate our marriage.”
