The kids are baffled when Mom’s ex-husband mows her lawn, but his explanation is going viral
Codie LaChelle McPhate of Waller, Texas recently shared her thoughts about what it means to be mature adults who remain committed to being there for their children even after their marriage is over. She was inspired to write the post, which has now gone viral with thousands of views worldwide when she stopped by her mother’s house and saw something that stopped her in her tracks.
“This is my dad, mowing my mom’s lawn. They’ve been divorced 28 years,” Codie wrote.
“My mom has bad knees, and my stepdad works out of town. When my younger siblings questioned, ‘Why is your dad mowing mom’s lawn?’ I told them, ‘Because, she needed help, and he knew she couldn’t get out here to do it, so he did.’”
Codie went on to explain that although her parents have been divorced for close to 30 years, they never once stopped caring about each other. After all, they have children together, and they will always respect the person who brought those lives into the world with them. Even though their circumstances have changed, they’re forever bonded by love.
“This is co-parenting. This is how lucky I am to have 4 parents who respect each other and know that at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is showing your children how to love your family.”
But it’s what Codie’s dad said about the reason he lent a hand that day that really resonated with the thousands of people who read the post. He didn’t mow that lawn for a pat on the back; he did it because it was easy for him to do, and it would help his ex-wife out. It’s just that simple.
