Several of the Super Bowl-bound Philadelphia Eagles are on the cover of Bible Study Magazine.

Carson Wentz, Zach Ertz, Trey Burton, Nick Foles and Chris Maragos are the Magazine’s newest edition cover.

In the early 1990’s the Eagles started a Bible Study when the late Reggie White was sacking quarterbacks for the team. Since then, it became most of the Philadelphia players’ source of encouragement.

Maragos said, “This group is, without a doubt, extremely unique,” “This is my third team in eight years, and the reason why it’s super-unique is because we have so many solid leaders and guys who are well-versed in the word. These guys are willing to get out in the community and share the gospel, serve each other around the [team] facility, and be invested in each other’s lives on a daily basis.”

Burton said,

“I’m in Philly with a bunch of unbelievably strong men. I’m surrounded by a ton of good people, and I can be who God created me to be.”

Two of players on the cover, Wentz, and Maragos, won’t be playing in Super Bowl LII because of season-ending injuries. But their faith has grown through a very trying time.

At the start of the season, the team started a bible study focusing on prayers for humility and surrender. Those are unlikely requests for any believer, let alone for professional athletes in a sport as violent and competitive as the NFL. After all, who would want the failure and pain that could come from such a prayer? But these very special Eagles are teaching us that God’s blessings are sure, whether they win a Super Bowl ring or not.
