Today, a couple of stories of people who go the extra mile to brighten the lives of those around them.

First, from Mesa, Arizona where Rolando Maaba is providing more than just clean rooms to patients at Banner Desert Medical Center and Cardon Children’s Hospital.

Two hours before his custodial shift starts he comforts patients, staff and visitors alike with his piano playing.

Maaba told Fox 10 that music calms patients and their loved ones and helps them forget about their health problems. He thinks it also promotes healing.

Maaba, who is from the Philippines, taught himself how to play the piano more than 40 years ago. His melodies have become a staple for patients and helps ease the stress for people who work at the medical center.

He says it’s difficult to explain where his musical talents came from but he feels like it’s part of his purpose in life telling Fox 10, “Maybe upstairs God gifted me that talent.”

And in Austin, Texas one dad proved the benefit of remembering the little things…even if it won’t earn you any fashion points.

Robert Olivo showed up at his son Dylan’s graduation wearing a handmade Pokemon necktie. Its not something you’d find on the rack. Its blue with a big yellow Pokemon with red cheeks near the bottom of the tie.

Dylan made that tie as a gift for his dad.

A picture of Robert and his handmade tie standing next to Dylan in his cap and gown has gone viral on Twitter with Dylan adding this comment…. “I made this tie for my dad when I was in 1st grade. 11 years later he wears it to my graduation.”
