With President-Elect Donald Trump’s inauguration this Friday and confirmation hearings for his cabinet already underway, one leading evangelist is calling on Christians to pray for those in leadership.

Franklin Graham says the president recently asked for prayer as he faces the complex and dangerous challenges of leading our country in such tumultuous times.

Graham says the request was a pointed reminder to him that he should be praying for our president and our leaders every day—not to get something from them—but simply in obedience to the Scriptures.

He reminds us of some of the promises from scripture when it comes to our government leaders…..

We know from Proverbs 21:1 that God can turn the hearts of kings. Graham says that means we should be praying for God’s will to be done and for our leaders to seek God and listen to Him.

We should pray that they would be surrounded by godly counsel and, most important, that our leadership would personally know God and the salvation found through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Graham reminds believers that interceding for those in authority is not an option. It is a biblical command that we are to obey. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 reads, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty”
