People magazine is calling country singer Joey Feek “the Christmas spirit.”

The country singer has been celebrating the holiday season with her loved ones, according to husband Rory who shared an update on his blog This Life I Live on Friday.

He wrote, “My wife knows I love Christmas. There’s a magic that’s in the air that isn’t there any other time of the year.”

Although Joey “can no longer get out of bed” as she copes with terminal cancer under hospice care at her childhood home in Alexandria, Indiana, the community has rallied to make this year a “very special Christmas.”

Recently the couple’s favorite local pizza place, Pizza King, generously gifted the Feeks – specifically 21-month-old daughter Indiana – with a big bag of presents.

Rory says the family opened the bag and realized that those nice folks had bought and wrapped 25 separate presents. “One each day from December 1st, all the way through Christmas. He remarked, What a beautiful, thoughtful thing to do.”

The fourth day of December was especially heartwarming as Indiana was able to open her gift on her mother’s lap.

Since undergoing a radical hysterectomy in May 2014 and another surgery in July, Joey has been spending her final days with love and holiday cheer.

Rory writes “Joey’s still feeling pretty good and her spirit is just as positive as ever.”
