Lots of questions plague parents as they try to raise their children. But here’s one every parent should be asking – how do I best introduce my child to God?  Cindy Brandt writing a blog on the website Sojourners believes young children don’t need systematic theology which delineates with painstaking detail each character trait of God.  They need permission to discover God for themselves.  No doubt some will disagree, but here’s her view on teaching your children about God…

She writes, “to raise children to discover God for themselves is to teach the kids not who God is, but where to find God.  Not what God is, but how to spot God.  Young children don’t need systematic theology which delineates with painstaking detail each character trait of God.  They need permission to discover God for themselves.”  She points to a scene in C.S. Lewis’ Narnia chronicles where Lucy meets Aslan, the lion who is an archetype for God:

Cindy Brandt says,  “The question we need to ask when our children leave home is not, ‘Have you learned everything there is to know about God?’  But, ‘Are you ready to get started?'”
